In the previous post, “Which Jobs Are Vibe-Coding Friendly?”, I covered 102 jobs across 12 categories — but almost all of them require leaving home: guard booths, convenience stores, data centers. This post covers a more radical option: remote online gigs where you never leave the house at all.

The conclusion up front: the remote track works as a supplement and a bridge, not as a main line. Three reasons: low income ceiling (mostly 3,000-6,000 CNY/month), instability (task-based, the platform calls the shots), and no social insurance. But it’s irreplaceable in two scenarios: bridge cash flow before you land an offline fallback job, and second income on top of one. Plus one exception — OpenTrain, paid in USD at $20-60/hr, is a different story entirely. More on that below.

The three tiers of remote gigs

Tier 1: True freedom (task-based crowdsourcing) — Alibaba Crowdsourcing, Bijike, OpenTrain. No attendance, no monitoring, no colleagues; work when you want. The very concept of “slacking off” doesn’t apply, because all the time is already yours. Risk of being caught: zero.

Tier 2: Remote but with KPIs (support / moderation / annotation) — cross-border e-commerce support, English after-sales, content moderation, video annotation. Shifts or response-rate quotas exist; coding happens in the cracks: while waiting for a customer reply, while a task loads.

Tier 3: Half a real job — cross-border operations specialist. Highest pay (8-15K CNY), fastest growth, but heavy KPI pressure, limited slacking, and a 30% three-month quit rate. It’s a real remote job, not “paid to chill.”

Nine gigs, one by one

1. Alibaba Crowdsourcing data annotator ★ Freedom ceiling

• What: Bounding-box image labeling, text classification, speech transcription — preprocessing AI training data on Alibaba’s official crowdsourcing platform.
• Pay: 0.2-0.8 CNY/image, 0.05-0.3 CNY/text item; 3-4 hours a day earns 80-150 CNY, 3000-5000/month. ⚠️ “8000+/month once skilled” is unrealistic — 5000-6000 is the cap. Weekly T+1 or daily payout, zero-fee Alipay withdrawal.
• A day: Pick up tasks after 22:00 (quiet, higher accuracy), annotate 2-3 hours, rest, repeat; even the 3-5 seconds while an image loads fits two lines of code. No attendance, no monitoring.
• Barrier: Age 18-45, high-school diploma, one day of training.
• How to find it: Alibaba Crowdsourcing mini-program/app — register, verify identity, complete online training, pass the test tasks. Do 10 trial tasks first to confirm the rates are real.
• Traps: The platform itself charges nothing (any middleman asking for money is a scam); the real cost is physical — prolonged sitting and screen-staring makes you dizzy after 4 hours; plus the “assembly-line” feel — users report burning out within 3 months.

2. Bijike crowdsourcing platform ★ Freedom ceiling

• What: App install referrals (30-120 CNY/task), game trials (60 CNY), surveys (5-30 CNY), short-drama reposting (8-70 CNY) — a task marketplace run by a Jiaxing company.
• Pay: Per-task or daily settlement, withdraw from 10 CNY to WeChat/Alipay instantly. 2-4 hours a day, 3000-5000/month.
• A day: Simple tasks 22:00-24:00, high-value sprints 00:00-02:00, then your own code. Working 10-20 days a month is enough.
• Barrier: Age 18-50, ID verification; some tasks require an Android phone.
• How to find it: Bijike app/mini-program or bijike.com — register and take tasks the same day. Do 1-2 tasks first to verify instant payout.
• Traps: Some tasks require installing third-party apps (storage/battery drain); a few restrict device/IP reuse; lots of low-quality tasks — learn to filter.

3. OpenTrain AI trainer ★ The only USD option

• What: Review AI-generated Python code (correctness/performance/architecture), write reference implementations and tests, score model outputs, RLHF evaluation. 100% remote; Chinese nationals can apply.
• Pay: Transparent USD hourly — general roles $20-45/hr, Python code review $27-50/hr, senior evaluation $60/hr; platform fee 10-15%, monthly payout via PayPal/Wise. At 20 hrs/week × $40, that’s roughly ¥23-25K/month — the only remote gig in the whole table that out-earns a day job.
• Barrier: English C1 (the working language is English; you write structured feedback), CS bachelor’s or equivalent experience; senior roles want 3-7 years. Weaker English? Start with $8-18/hr entry roles.
• How to find it: Register at opentrain.ai/jobs/country/china, complete your profile, apply (some roles have light tests). Active listings (2026-08): Chinese-Speaking Python Code Reviewer ($27-50/hr), Senior Python AI Response Reviewer ($60/hr).
• Traps: English is the real barrier; senior roles require video interviews; no social insurance. ⚠️ Low-confidence note: platform policies shift fast — verify rates after registering.
• The essence: this is geo-arbitrage — living on Chinese costs, earning American hourly rates. And since writing code is the job, work and slacking fully merge on this track.

4. AI trainer (Laomi Digital, remote part-time)

• What: Image/speech/text/video annotation plus math-problem training data; a Changsha company, fully remote.
• Pay: Piece-rate daily settlement, 100-500 CNY/day, 2500-4000/month, paid on the 15th; no deposit, no training fee.
• Barrier: High school+, typing 40 chars/min, 1-2 days of training; some high-pay tasks require a master’s or experience.
• How to find it: Search for “Hunan Laomi Digital Technology” on Zhaopin/Liepin; HR replies within 12 hours, onboard within 3 days.
• Traps: Task-based — underperform and they simply stop assigning; no social insurance.

5. Short-video annotation (Dianyan Future, Hangzhou local)

• What: Video clip annotation (detection/segmentation/classification) for AI training and copyright monitoring; an AI company in Binjiang, Hangzhou; remote negotiable.
• Pay: 3000-5000/month for beginners, 5000-8000 once skilled; monthly settlement.
• Barrier: Age 20-35, associate degree+, 3-5 days of training.
• How to find it: Search for “Hangzhou video annotation” on eleduck.com or Yupao.
• Traps: Video annotation demands sustained screen focus and strains the eyes; “quick to learn, hard to endure — boring by day three.”

6. Cross-border e-commerce support (night hybrid)

• What: English after-sales for Amazon/Walmart sellers — emails/calls/online chat; work from home; night shift includes a 2-hour break.
• Pay: 8000-12000/month (20% performance-based), night-shift allowance 300-500, and big-company social insurance — rare “proper benefits” on the remote track.
• A day: 22:00-07:00; the break window (e.g. 01:00-02:30) is codable, but KPIs enforce a 30-minute response rate, so focused hours are real. About 6 hours of mandatory work — right at my gate’s edge.
• Barrier: Associate degree+, CET-6 English (fluent reading/writing), age 22-35.
• How to find it: Search for “cross-border e-commerce customer service night shift Hangzhou” on Zhaopin/Liepin; the Wenyi West Road area in Yuhang is the hub, with ~20-30 openings.
• Traps: Sitting plus timezone-flipping — fatigue, joint pain, dry eyes; “drudgery, but with a future.” Confirm “work from home” in writing at the interview or you’ll end up commuting.

7. English after-sales support (night shift)

• What: English after-sales for cross-border sellers, 22:00-08:00 with a 1.5-hour break; WeChat Work, no monitoring.
• Pay: 8000-12000/month, social insurance, night allowance 200-400.
• Barrier: Associate degree+, CET-6 English, 30-50 emails a day.
• Traps: 6.5 hours of mandatory work daily — over my ≤6h gate (✗); “so draining, nobody lasts 3 months.” If your English is strong and you handle nights well, consider it; I put it in the reject pile.

8. Content moderator (remote, home-based)

• What: Review user-uploaded text/images/videos (pornographic/violent/political/infringing content), tag with internal tools; task-based.
• Pay: 0.1-0.5 CNY per text/image item, 1-5 CNY per video; 3-4 hours a day, 4000-6000/month, T+1 weekly settlement.
• Barrier: High school+, 1-2 days of training.
• How to find it: Search for “content moderation remote” on Liepin; Hangzhou openings are scarce (3-5); remote-worker Telegram groups are livelier.
• Traps: A special warning — psychological impact is a real cost; prolonged exposure to violent/pornographic content drives a 40% three-month quit rate. If you’re not mentally tough, skip this one.

9. Cross-border operations specialist (Amazon/Walmart)

• What: Listing optimization, ad ROI data analysis, account health; hub in Binjiang; partially remote.
• Pay: 8000-15000/month (base + performance + commission), social insurance.
• Barrier: Age 25-35, 1-3 years of cross-border experience (few entry roles), strong Excel; Python is a plus.
• Traps: Heavy KPI pressure (hard conversion/ROI targets), possible daytime timezone meetings; “fast growth, high pressure, 30% quit in 3 months.” This is a real remote job, not a chill post — worth serious consideration for programmers pivoting into cross-border e-commerce; a detour for anyone seeking a fallback gig.

Traps to avoid

1. Anyone charging you money is a scammer: middleman fees, deposits, training fees — Alibaba/Bijike/OpenTrain are all officially free. Blacklist any “training fee over 500 CNY.”
2. Fake remote: Ask explicitly at the interview — “is this work-from-home?” Get it in the contract or chat record, so you don’t get called into an office after onboarding.
3. Verify payout before scaling: on any platform, do 1-2 tasks, confirm the money actually lands, then invest serious time.
4. Psychological drain is a cost: the 40% three-month quit rate in content moderation is no accident — don’t tough it out.
5. WeChat Work beats DingTalk: monitoring laxity ranks WeChat Work > DingTalk > in-house systems. Casually ask which one they use at the interview.

How I’d use this track

The right way to play the remote track is a combination, not a solo bet:

• Bridge period: before landing an offline fallback job, register on Alibaba Crowdsourcing/Bijike today and earn today — reconnect the cash flow first;
• Second income: on top of a fallback night job, run crowdsourcing tasks on days off or weekends for an extra 2000-3000/month;
• Programmers with strong English: OpenTrain is the only “main-track caliber” option in the table — $27-50/hr Python code review is literally our day job. Apply seriously.

Action list (doable today)

1. Register on the Alibaba Crowdsourcing app → finish training → take 10 trial tasks (verify the rates are real);
2. Register on Bijike → verify identity → do 2 referral tasks → confirm instant payout;
3. Within 3 days: register on OpenTrain → apply to 2 entry roles (Python track preferred);
4. Within a week: apply to “remote support” on Liepin (Yuhang preferred) + “video annotation” on eleduck.com (Binjiang remote roles).
